If you’re someone who often opens a message, thinks “I’ll reply later,” and then completely forgets about it, WhatsApp’s latest experiment might just be your new favorite feature.
According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is now testing a smart message reminder tool that allows users to schedule follow-up alerts for individual messages.
Instead of pinning chats, starring messages, or relying on memory, users can now long-press any message and tap the new “Remind me” option.
From there, they can choose from preset intervals, 2 hours, 8 hours, or 24 hours, or set a custom reminder. Once set, the message is marked with a subtle bell icon, making it easy to find later in a busy conversation.
When the reminder time arrives, WhatsApp pushes a notification labeled ‘Reminder’, showing the original message, the sender’s name or group title, and even a preview of any attached media, just like a regular message alert.
But that’s not all. WhatsApp is also exploring proactive reminders.
This feature would send gentle nudges about unread messages from frequent contacts, which could be especially useful for users juggling multiple chats and unintentionally skipping over important ones.
The message reminders feature is currently spotted in the latest beta version for Android, with no confirmed launch date. iOS support is expected in future tests, though WhatsApp hasn’t made any official announcements yet.
As always, beta features may evolve or change before public release—but this one looks like it could bring meaningful productivity to our daily chats.
