Samsung seems to be gearing up for the launch of its next affordable 5G smartphone, the Galaxy A17 5G, and leaks around it have already started to surface online. With the device recently spotted on benchmarking site Geekbench and official support pages quietly going live in countries like India and Russia, the launch appears to be right around the corner.
According to the Geekbench listing, the Galaxy A17 5G will be powered by the Exynos 1380, the same chipset as the Galaxy A16.
Paired with 6GB of RAM, it won’t be a performance beast, but it should be capable enough for everyday tasks, social media, and casual gaming.
While some users may have hoped for a newer processor, Samsung’s choice to stick with a tried-and-tested chip could be aimed at maintaining affordability while ensuring stable performance.
Camera performance may see a decent bump, too. The A17 5G is rumored to feature a 50MP primary camera equipped with optical image stabilization (OIS), which is a notable upgrade, especially for a phone in this price range.
The inclusion of OIS means sharper images and steadier videos, even in low-light or shaky scenarios. Additional lenses for ultra-wide or macro shots might be present as well, completing a versatile camera setup.
Design-wise, not much appears to have changed. The Galaxy A17 5G will likely retain a plastic build with a minimalist aesthetic, in line with Samsung’s typical A-series design language.
It’s expected to house a 6.7-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with a smooth refresh rate—likely 90Hz or possibly even 120Hz—providing a vibrant and responsive viewing experience.
Features like a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, USB-C charging port, stereo speakers, and an IP54 rating for basic dust and splash resistance are also anticipated.
The battery is tipped to be around 4,860mAh (marketed as 5,000mAh), with support for 25W fast charging, ensuring that the phone stays powered throughout the day without much fuss.
For those keeping an eye on pricing, early European leaks suggest that the Galaxy A17 5G might start at around €170. If Samsung retains similar pricing in markets like India, it could become one of the most appealing options in the price range of ₹15,000 to ₹20,000.
Overall, the Galaxy A17 5G looks like a smart and steady upgrade. It doesn’t break new ground but offers a good mix of essentials—5G connectivity, dependable performance, a capable camera system with OIS, a big AMOLED screen, and the promise of long software support.
