Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy A17 5G, the latest addition to its popular A-series, in select European markets. Despite earlier confusion about the naming convention, the A17 5G arrives as a direct successor to the Galaxy A16 5G, bringing several subtle but meaningful upgrades.

This new mid-range smartphone continues to target users who want strong specs, modern software, and long-term update support, all without breaking the bank.

Super AMOLED Display and Familiar Chipset

The Galaxy A17 5G features a 6.7-inch Full HD+ Super AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate, offering smooth scrolling and vibrant visuals. It uses Samsung’s Infinity-U notch design, housing a 13MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls.

Under the hood, the phone retains the Exynos 1330 processor, a 5nm chipset that powers both performance and efficiency. This is paired with 4GB, 6GB, or 8GB RAM options, and 128GB of internal storage, expandable up to 2TB via microSD.

Camera Setup Remains Versatile

In terms of cameras, the A17 5G sticks with a triple rear camera setup, featuring a 50MP main sensor, a 5MP ultra-wide lens, and a 2MP macro camera. These are supported by an LED flash and software enhancements through One UI 7.0, based on the latest Android 15.

While the camera hardware is unchanged from its predecessor, Samsung has refreshed the camera module design, giving the phone a cleaner, more modern look.

Sleeker Build and Long-Term Software Support

Samsung has made the A17 5G slightly thinner and lighter, measuring 7.5mm in thickness and weighing 192 grams. It includes a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a USB Type-C port, and bottom-ported speakers.

The phone is IP54 rated, offering basic protection against dust and water splashes, a welcome addition at this price point.

One of the biggest highlights is Samsung’s commitment to software: the Galaxy A17 5G will receive 6 years of security updates and 6 OS upgrades, making it a standout in the mid-range category.

Battery and Charging

Powering the phone is a 5,000mAh battery, which should easily last a full day of use. It supports 25W fast charging, though the charger is sold separately, as is now standard with many Samsung phones.

Price and Availability

The Galaxy A17 5G is priced at €239 (approximately $277 / ₹24,330) for the 4GB + 128GB variant. It is available in Black, Blue, and Grey colors. The phone is already up for pre-order in several European countries, with shipments starting next week.

Samsung has confirmed that the phone will launch in more global markets, including India, in the coming weeks.
