RedMagic, a sub-brand of Nubia known for its gaming smartphones, has made a bold move in the tablet space with the launch of the RedMagic Astra.

Aimed squarely at mobile gamers, this 9.06-inch Android tablet blends powerful internals with a sleek design and a high-refresh-rate OLED display, all priced around $500. But can it truly carve a niche in the crowded tablet market?

The Astra carries a futuristic design inspired by the RedMagic 10 series. It features a matte black aluminum unibody with a transparent strip showcasing the RGB fan, RedMagic logo, and faux schematics of its internals.

At 134.2 × 207 × 6.9mm and weighing 370 grams, it strikes a balance between portability and premium build.

Physical controls include a power button, volume rocker, USB-C port, and a signature “Magic Key” slider that activates Game Space mode. Unfortunately, the retail box is barebones, just the tablet, a USB-C cable, and some stickers.

The highlight is its 9.06-inch OLED screen with a 165Hz refresh rate, 1600 nits peak brightness, and 2.4K resolution (~312 PPI). It supports 100% DCI-P3 color gamut and boasts a color accuracy of ΔE < 1. Whether you’re gaming or binge-watching, the visuals are sharp and vibrant.

Powering the device is the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip with an Adreno 830 GPU clocked at 1.1GHz. Paired with up to 24GB RAM and 1TB storage, the Astra handles high-performance gaming with ease. However, extended gaming sessions may heat up the device and trigger the internal cooling fan.

Redmagic Astra Tablet Features

Running on Android 15 with RedMagic OS 10.5, the software is clean, with minimal bloat and some AI enhancements. The star feature is Game Space, a dedicated gaming hub that lets users fine-tune CPU/GPU modes, block notifications, and connect gaming peripherals like a mouse or keyboard.

Audio is delivered through dual stereo speakers with DTS:X Ultra support. There’s no 3.5mm headphone jack, but Bluetooth headphones can be used instead.

The 8,200 mAh battery promises around 5.5 hours of gaming or up to 33 hours of video playback, with 90W wired fast charging, though wireless charging is notably absent.

The Astra features a 13MP main camera and a 9MP front camera, which are adequate but not standout. The lack of shoulder buttons or gaming triggers may disappoint competitive gamers, but casual players will still find plenty to love.

The RedMagic Astra is a compelling option for gamers who want something more portable than a traditional tablet but more immersive than a smartphone. Its high-refresh OLED screen, strong GPU, and unique gaming software make it a powerful travel companion.

However, the lack of wireless charging, modest camera setup, and limited gaming hardware controls may not satisfy everyone.
