Indian smartphone maker Lava appears to be preparing the launch of a new budget-friendly smartphone, the Lava Shark 2 4G, as suggested by multiple online leaks.

While the company has yet to officially confirm the device, benchmark listings and database entries are already offering a peek into the possible specifications and features of the upcoming phone.

A report from Passionategeekz reveals that a Lava device with model number LZX420, believed to be the Lava Shark 2 4G, has been spotted on the IMEI database, confirming the name of the handset. The same device has also appeared on the Geekbench benchmarking platform, hinting at an imminent launch in India.

According to the Geekbench listing, the Lava Shark 2 4G is expected to be powered by the Unisoc T606 SoC, an octa-core chipset also found in the first-generation Lava Shark model.

The benchmark score for the device is 428 in the single-core test and 1,444 in the multi-core test, suggesting modest performance suited for daily tasks.

The device is likely to include at least 4GB of RAM and, notably, could ship with the latest Android 15 operating system, a significant upgrade for an entry-level smartphone.

The original Lava Shark 4G, launched in March 2024, was priced at Rs. 6,999 for the 4GB + 64GB variant. It featured a 6.7-inch HD+ 120Hz display, a 50MP AI-assisted rear camera, and an 8MP front camera.

The phone also offered a 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and IP54 dust and splash resistance.

In May, Lava expanded the series with the Shark 5G, featuring a Unisoc T765 SoC, Android 15, and a 13MP dual rear camera setup. It was launched at Rs. 7,999 for the 4GB + 64GB configuration.

Although the official launch details are still under wraps, the Lava Shark 2 4G is expected to retain a similar design and price range as its predecessor.

With Android 15 out of the box and improved performance, it may aim to bring the latest software experience to the sub-Rs. 8,000 segment, a competitive space for first-time smartphone users and students.

The display, camera, and battery specs are still unconfirmed, but considering Lava’s track record, users can expect a balanced mix of practical features and value for money.
