HONOR has taken foldable smartphone durability to the next level with its latest flagship, the HONOR Magic V5. The device has officially entered the Guinness World Records after lifting the heaviest weight ever recorded by a suspended foldable smartphone, a staggering 104 kilograms (229.2 lbs).
The record was recognized on August 1, 2025, in Dubai, UAE, where Emma Brain, an official Guinness World Records adjudicator, confirmed the achievement. This milestone showcases HONOR’s focus on innovation and durability in the foldable smartphone category, an area that often raises consumer concerns about long-term reliability.
The HONOR Magic V5’s durability is powered by the second-generation HONOR Super Steel Hinge, which combines compact engineering with outstanding strength. With a tensile strength of 2300 MPa, the hinge can withstand up to 500,000 folds while supporting over 100 kilograms in controlled vertical lifting conditions.
This innovation ensures that the Magic V5 remains slim and lightweight without compromising durability. The phone measures just 8.8mm when folded and weighs 217 grams, making it one of the slimmest foldable smartphones in its category.
Traditionally, foldable smartphones have faced skepticism regarding durability due to their complex hinge mechanisms. HONOR addresses these concerns by blending robust design with everyday practicality. Following its initial launch in China last month, the HONOR Magic V5 is scheduled for a global debut on August 28, 2025, in London.
