Apple might be gearing up to release a new line of accessories for its upcoming iPhone 17 series, and this time, it could involve a material twist. According to a recent leak, the tech giant is planning to introduce ‘Liquid Silicon’ cases for the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro models.

The rumor originates from a somewhat controversial but occasionally accurate leaker known as “Majin Bu”, who posted images and information about the alleged new cases in a blog post.

While Apple hasn’t confirmed anything officially, this leak is gaining attention due to the track record of earlier accessory rumors that turned out to be true.

The leaked images show cases with a distinct ripple effect near the MagSafe charging ring, a design feature that could serve both aesthetic and functional purposes.

The cases also feature multiple cutouts for lanyard attachments, hinting at a new way to carry or secure your iPhone. However, it’s suggested that lanyards may be sold separately and not come bundled with the cases.

Lanyard support isn’t entirely new in Apple’s design history. AirPods Pro 2 charging cases have a similar cutout for lanyards, and the iPod touch once included a built-in lanyard mechanism, so the idea isn’t out of place for Apple to revisit.

Majin Bu claims these “Liquid Silicone” cases will feature a “Liquid Glass effect” to align with the visual style of iOS 26, which has introduced a glossy, fluid-like aesthetic to its interface.

However, the exact meaning of “Liquid Glass effect” in terms of physical case material remains unclear, whether it’s a visual texture, reflective surface, or entirely new material blend.

Apple is known for pairing its software updates with complementary hardware design trends, so the introduction of cases reflecting iOS 26’s new look wouldn’t be out of the ordinary.

It’s worth noting that iPhone case leaks often stir speculation, but sometimes they land close to the truth. For example, the now-confirmed “FineWoven” case line was initially dismissed as unlikely by many when first leaked. With the “Liquid Silicone” name now in the spotlight, it’s possible Apple could surprise users once again.

Majin Bu has had a mixed reputation in the leaker community, though they were recently accurate in predicting iPadOS 26’s Mac-like menu bar for iPads.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 lineup and accessories in just over a month, likely in its annual September event. Until then, rumors like these offer a glimpse, though not confirmation, of what may be in store.
